The Plasma-Nano Revolution
At BudMore, Scientists, technologists and engineers join hands together to provide healthy resolutions that tackle major challenges in the aquaculture industry. We strive to develop new technologies that allow farmers to increase productivity without affecting the environment. The focus is on solving several real-world problems that affects aquaculture sectors around the globe and making the farming process noticeably better. We believe in innovation and that technologies have potential to bring drastic change to the way world looks at aquaculture now.
Plasma In Aquaculture
Plasma, the fourth state of matter, have been demonstrated to purify and disinfectant water at the laboratory scale. BudMore project brings together expertise on plasma engineering, nano aerators, modelling and industrial scaling to address the issues related to spike in mortality rate in the aquaculture industry. The expected outcomes of this project are the development and demonstration of a modular, re-deployable Nano-Plasma reactor in the aquaculture industry. The benefits of this device are not just limited to disinfection but it will have a wide range of applications.
Way Superior All The Harmful Methods Traditionally Used
The application of plasma in aquaculture may provide a new avenue to enhance antimicrobial activity of the aquatic species. Moreover, plasma technology increases breeding response, guarantees higher production of eggs, increases hatching performance, improves infected fish recovery; guarantees healthier survival environment for hatchlings and improves their growth during nursery rearing.
Pathogenic microbes have been a treats to the aquaculture industry since long and aquatic animals were always exposed to attack from various micro organisms including bacteria, virus, fungi and parasite. Commonly used decontamination techniques have several downsides, which results in million dollar lose in the aquaculture industry annually.
The antimicrobial effect of plasma has been gaining a lot of interest especially in the agriculture and medical field. The mixture of reactive ions and reactive species present in plasma can cause a number of destructive effects on the pathogens which eventually leads to inactivation of the pathogen. Plasma also have the capability to ensure complete sterilization with prolonged exposure.
However, the efficiency of plasma in a complex system such as aquaculture, will depend on a number of parameters including device design, composition of gas, standard operating parameters, temperature, etc.
Decompose Organic Waste
Excessive fish feeds, chemicals, antibiotics, fish carcass, fish faeces etc remains in the aquaculture system as organic waste. Few wastes such as feeds are typically insoluble in water and need to be broken down. These organic wastes can pollute the system, increase the pH level, decrease the dissolved oxygen levels and can eventually affect the health of aquatic organisms.
Plasma can help in breaking down the organic waste materials , can also help in maintaining the health of the aquatic organisms.
Aquatic organism absorbs nutrients and minerals from the food we feed and from the water around them. Proper intake of nutrients are essential for the growth and reproduction of aquatic animals as well as for the production of healthy and high quality aquatic products.
Although, the effect of plasma is been explored widely in increasing the nutrient absorbing capacity of plants, there are less studies on the effect of plasma on increasing the nutrient absorbing capacity of aquatic animals.
Preserving The Quality Of
The demand for seafood is on a constant spike since last few decades. Along with increasing the production , it is mandatory to improve the food preservation methods to meet the demand. However, when it comes to sea food, the traditional storage methods often compromises on the nutritional values and freshness.
Plasma, the novel, chemical free and ecofriendly technology is currently being developed for preservation approaches and is a promising alternative to other seafood preservation technology as the quality is well preserved through this approach.
